Whats Best – A Single Or Double Oven?

Build Your Own Wood Burning Pizza Oven

Im going to be buying a cooker shortly (unfortunately electric as our flat has no gas supply!) and was hoping for some advice on the best type. I think I will go for one of the glass top ones, and I want a fan assisted oven…but is it best to go for a single or a double oven?
I think two ovens would be useful, but then if you are doing, for example a really large roast – would the bottom oven be big enough, or would it be best to have one large oven? I have quite a small oven at the moment (just single) and had problems yesterday fitting my roasters in along with my beef which made me question how good double ovens would be!
Thanks for your help.

  1. A lot depends on how big your family is, and how many dishes you usually cook whilst your oven is heated. I prefer a double oven because if I only want to cook a single dish (which is often), the smaller oven is quicker to heat and more economical. When I cook a large meal and find the larger oven just isn’t big enough, then I simply use both ovens. Have a great Christmas.

  2. Double ovens would be my choice since you can bake/roast two things at different temps

  3. I have just bought a glass topped oven and I am finding keeping it and maintaining it rather labour intensive, and you have to be careful what pans you use on it. But if this is alright by you then that is fine.
If I had my time again and I was in a situation to afford one, I would go for the double oven. Use the smaller one for the smaller things, the larger for the larger things and both when you are doing roasts and anything else.
It is really a matter of choice.

  4. i would say a double you can get more in it and save time

  5. a double oven is usefull if you are doing a big roast dinner, you can use both ovens at the same time or just the big one,but at times when your just cooking for two you can just use the top oven and save on power.i have had a glass top double oven now for many years and wouldnt have any other also if you are used to a gas cooker you will find it quite diffrent at first to get use to electric but when you do you will find it is much cleaner, you wont need to decorate as often, with gas you get like a sticky residue on all the walls and ceiling you dont get this with electric, and the hob cleanes in a jiffy u wont look back i promise

  6. Double Oven

  7. I have a double oven for the first time, and I found it very useful. One is smaller and also doubles as the grill, perfect for small portions or things like biscuits.
Check measurements, I wouldn’t touch anything smaller than 60cm wide for the cooker and also try to get internal width of the oven, electric ones tend to be narrower since you need space for the elements.
I also recommend, that if you bake a lot, look for models with glass oven doors, so you can see what’s going on without opening the door and ruining the cakes.

thank you ever so much, have a star ************
i put an apple pie in the oven before, and only for you question on ovens, i would have forgotten about it.
and yes a double oven would be better, for me anyways!

  9. My preference would be for a double oven. It can be very useful to have two different temperatures, and you don’t have a large oven to heat up if you are only cooking a small amount of food.
If you are going to cook very large dishes on a regular basis, then a single larger over might be better for you.

  10. Double ovens are nice especially around the holidays and when doing lots of baking.
