  1. Depends on a number of things. But generally Gas will be cheaper, IF, you already have a gas hook-up. The reason; gas burns hotter (more Btus) than electricity. However, electricity bakes better than gas.
Now the factors… If you don’t have gas already hooked-up then that is an added expense, if you have propane, expect to pay a little more than you would for the same gas appliance.
Piezo start or pilot flame, the pilot flame always burns which adds to the gas bill.
Cost of electricity in your area, in an area blessed with hydroelectric dams, electricity will cost less than those that depend on coal plants, therefore the electric stove maybe cheaper to run.
Will you need a higher power exhaust fan for gas, extra venting or any other “gas” related items your building code requires?
As energy prices rise, so will gas prices as well as electrical, how much, depends on more factors that my head hurts thinking about it.
The real answer is this: What is the payback timeframe you’re looking at, while electrical stove are generally cheaper and gas is generally cheaper to run, how much cheaper and how long do you have to own the stove before you see a return of investment? Five years is almost always the rule.
Oh, and the other part of the answer is, what do you like, gas or electric? Pick that one.

  2. The energy consumption of a stove, like many other things, is based on how long the unit is being used. For most households the stove is only operated a few hours each day, and only when actually turned on. Therefore, the difference between gas and electric costs might not be great enough to offset personal preference of gas or electric heat control when cooking. However, to answer your question, it depends on what your energy rate is for both electric and gas cost. You should contact your local utility office and request to speak to a residential customer service representative. They can calculate the cost difference based on your local energy rates.

  3. Depends on your area your living, does it have electric start or the electric for the clock part, if you run it in the summer with your air conditioning for an electric stove thats where your bill comes in. depending how much u cook.

  4. I don’t know which is cheaper, but electric is cleaner(gas smells and I think is more dangerous). I have always been told it is cheaper if you go All-Electric.

  5. if you are looking for cheaper, gas will be the way to go.
if i had my choice i would have gas but i am stuck in a fully
electric apartment (dang it). but i have cooked with gas and found it to be way superior to electric (you are able to control
the heat better). congrats on the new home!!!

  6. electric

  7. gas

  8. I WOULDN’T THINK COOKING WOULD COST THAT MUCH FOR EITHER ONE. I WOULD GO WITH WHAT I LIKE AND WHAT I LIKE TO COOK ON. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR CHOICE….
