Relocating A Washer And Dryer…?

Build Your Own Wood Burning Pizza Oven

I am in the process of purchasing a new home… the house is beautiful, the only negative is that the washer and dryer hookup is in the kitchen and the house does not have a basement. Is it possible to relocate these appliances elsewhere in the house and any idea of the cost involved? Thanks for the input

  1. Moderate to extreamly expensive. If you want to move it upstairs you will need to find a small closet and you need make sure you can get hot/cold water hookups, dryer vent and/or gas to that one place. You may even have to tear up the wall. If you do it yourself you will probably save a lot but I don’t recomend moving a washer/dryer there. Your talking about a open water tank on your 2nd floor.

  2. This all depends on many factors. You would need to have a hot and cold water line at your new location, either 220 volts or a gas line for the dryer, and it would have to be near an exterior wall because of the dryer vent (unless you want to create a roof penetration, bad idea). If you plan on putting your washer and dryer near your hot water tank and furnace for example, it may be pretty cheap because waterlines will be close by and so will power, and/or gas. If your house is slab on grade, you may need a jackhammer, to get utility lines where you need them. I almost forgot… You will also need a drain line for the clothes washer as well.
My best advice… leave it where it is, and try and hide it as best you can.

  3. That would involve running water pipes to the new location you choose. Putting it somewhere close to existing water pipes would be the easiest as well as the cheapest. This would also require electrical work to wire a 220 plug for the dryer. So you are requiring the services of a plumber and an electrician. Cost could be several 100 to over a 1000 dollars depending on the work involved.
