Is It Safe To Paint The Exterior Of My Appliances?

Build Your Own Wood Burning Pizza Oven

I’m redecorating my kitchen, but my stove/oven and refridgerator are that yellowy color, I’d like the fridge to be white, and the stove/oven to be black. Will it cause any problems if I paint the exterior of them? And which would be better, spray paint or can paint?

  1. The fridge might be all right, if you use a paint made specifically for use on metals. Alternately, there are panels you can make or get to change the outer appearance of your refrigerator. I believe you’ll find information about that on DIY.COM.
The stove, I’m less sanguine about because it does use heat. You may be better off getting a new stove in the color you want. Although it does occur to me that an appliance store might be able to help you get a new look on your old stove, rather than changing it altogether.
I would favor a spray paint because 1) They’re more likely to be suited to metals, and 2)They’re less likely to run.
    Happy redecorating!

  2. i spray painted a fridge once it was my first appartment, and the fridge was a avacodo green color,i dragged it out to my deck went to wal-mart for some cheap but glossy spry paint and three cans later and to hours to dry,i had a new white fridge, just make sure you do it in a well ventilated area so you don’t pass out.

  3. DIY shows do this all the time. They use either automotive paint or appliance paint. Both are readily available.
