It may or may not be too much. It depends on whether or not you are supplying any items yourself and the extent of the work. Do try to go with a design build firm though. Their overhead is lower because they offer design & construction under one roof and will offer you a single project manager who has experience in both fields. You basically get a two for one deal instead of just a contractor. Be sure to check for insurance and licenses and definitely get references! If you are in the NY/NJ/CT metro area, I am co-owner of a design and construction firm. I’d be happy to give you another estimate. You may email me for more information or visit my website http://www.dwelldesignbuild.com. Good luck.
10 years ago, i added 40 ft X 20 ft to my home (extra living room, sliding glass door, now front alcove, and a new master bedroom) plus siding on the whole home and new windows all around. this only totalled 40000.00 canadian. you might need to look at a few places and get referrals (at least 2 from reliable sources) so you dont get ripped off.
I know a guy who remodels and rebuilds kitchens and he said that the price depends on the quality of the job and where your geographical location. As a safeguard it is always good to get several estimates and choose a trusted company that does a quality job.
