too big for this piece of meat (would not be 1/2 full to cook effectively). I have a digital stove top that is a royal pain – it’s a Miele, settings 1-12 and it’s electric. What temp should a pot roast cook on the stove top? What is the Hi and Low temperature for a crock pot? Thanks!

First off, calm down!!!
) Your crock pot will do just fine, if you have the 7-8 hours in which it takes to cook the roast. Even that’s a ‘smaller’ roast, it will still do fine in the crock pot: just a BIT of liquid, and some hard root vegetables at the BOTTOM of the crock, so the meat can rest on that like an “edible rack”………
You CAN do roasts stovetop, I must disagree with one of the answers here. You just have to watch it constantly and monitor the heat and amount of liquid, the oven is the best choice…….. Good ole’ Miele……good appliances across the board, IF YOU HAVE A DEGREE IN ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING. Gee, starting their dishwashers is like planning a trip to the moon!!!!!!!!!
Back to your dilemma: Do you have a working oven?? Either conventional or convection??? I’ll star this and come back to it……..

EDIT:
Good old Food Network to the rescue!!!!! This link has over 25 recipes done ON THE STOVETOP, the “braising” technique……Hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!http://www.foodnetwork.com/search/delega…
EDIT II:
Here are a TON of great stew recipes, check them out, according to your tastes. BTW, “stew meat” is just a cut up roast. Sharp knife, and cut the beef into managable pieces and then you want the “cubes” of beef to be about 5 cm X 5 cm……Then flour and brown the beef IN BATCHES in hot oil, and then go with the instructions in the particular recipe that you’ve chosen:http://www.foodnetwork.com/search/delega…
Can you slow roast in your oven versus a stove top? If so, roast at 325 for 3 hours. On the stove top, make sure you have enough liquid, like beef stock, so you don’t potentially have it stick to the cooking pot. Just cook on low for 2 1/2 – 3 hours just like slow cooking in a crock pot or oven, it will be great.
you can’t properly cook a roast on a stove top… all you can do is brown it.
you need to put it in your oven.
