I Am Moving House And They Have A Gas Cooker.?

Mine is electric. When they remove their gas cooker will the pipe be safe or will they have to have the pipe sealed off in some kind of way to be made safe. Does that make sense?

  1. All modern gas cookers (within the last 25 years at least) must be installed with a flexible hose. When that has been disconnected the gas pipe will be safe, because the fitting that will be left on the wall has a spring loaded safety valve incorporated into it.
If the previous owners decides for some obscure reason to take the fitting with them, then the pipe must be capped. If this has not been done then it is a very simple job, but by law it must be done by a Corgi reg installer, because the the gas pipe work must be be tested properly on completion. This will cost no more than a callout charge.
If you have no other gas appliances you could get it capped at the meter

  2. I am assuming that you mean a stove.Normally they cap off the gas pipe and that is fine. Many homes have outlets in the kitchen for electric as well as gas, because there are some people that prefer to cook on electric stove while others like the gas stove. They are both fine and safe.It is just a matter of choice and liking.

  3. If their gas cooker has a flexi lead, then the pipe is okay, it does not have to be capped off. If it has no Flexi, then it has to be capped off, or turned off at the meter.

  4. Yes it makes sense, and they should leave it capped off for you .
Its a small job to be honest and only takes a minute or so usually.

Yes it has to be by law.Check for a certificate that the gas cooker has been removed by a corgi gas fitter.

  6. The gas pipe will have to be sealed of which is easy done
