How Much Would It Cost (roughly) To Remove An Electric Heating System And Install Gas Central Heating?
I have seen a house I would really like to buy (having sold my flat). However, it currently only has electric heating. Assuming I can get gas in the house (neighbours in the area do have gas), does anyone know roughly how much installing mains gas and putting in a new gas boiler, gas pipes, connecting gas to water system, installing radiators and cooker connection (phew!)would cost?

To remove “electric heating” get a friend/electrician to isolate the supplies, You could remove yourself.
A new “gas heating” I would look for around £3000.
Try to get a quote for the entire removal of the existing electric system, and have it done before the installation of the new gas system.
The reason for this is that the old wires went through the centre of the joists, and usually the same holes can be used for the new pipework, saves drilling new holes which weaken the joists.
You can then get a lower quote from the pipework installer.
Don’t place radiators under windows, there is too much heat loss.
Install high quality convector radiators where it is not possible to place furniture, behind the door
I did it myself when it was still legal, and spent £1k on boiler & parts. It took me 6 months to do, and I would never repeat the experience.
A colleague has just had a quote for his semi-detached house – combi boiler + new radiators – £4,000. But he is replacing an existing system.
I estimate you would pay upwards of £5k to have gas and a new CH system installed.
I will guess at about £4,000 but it depends on who you get to do it as plumbers can charge what they like.
Removing the old electric radiators is a simple job and just a few hours labour and cost of disposing the rubbish so not really a significant part to worry about.
Depends entirely on how big the house is and if it has a gas supply.
Do you want radiators?
Find some local tradesmen and get at least 5 different quotes as they will all be different and then analyse what each will exactly provide for the money.
Get a fixed price otherwise you’ll get robbed over ‘extras’
You could be looking at GBP 25 – 30K
£4000 – £5000 is a realistic price – a gas boiler alone will cost in the region of £2750. Actually I think £5000 is more realistic and would be a good and fair price if you can get it.
Just get a quote!!
