When you are faced with buying a cooker there are a lot of considerations you’ll likely have to make, for some people who consider themselves as budding chefs then there are plenty of extra features they will be looking for but to the average homeowner there are plenty of options available all of which we may not have considered.

One of the clear choices to make is whether you choose a gas or an electric cooker; some people have a preference over a particular fuel type whereas some people may not have a gas supply such as blocks of flats as they tend not to have gas mains as a safety measure.

There are benefits to using gas ovens though as they have a much more controllable heat, especially the hob as the heat can be instantly lowered whereas electric hobs can take some time to cool down if you need a lower temperature such as bringing boiling water down to a simmer.

A lot of electrical cookers though can save you money as they do not require a gas supply in addition to your electricity supply you’ll already have in the rest of your home. With no gas it also means no flames which will mean less of a fire hazard in your home as well as never having to worry about the slight possibility of a gas leak.

Most cookers now include some form of fan oven or a fan assisted oven to help provide a more even distribution of heat as in the past you may have had to position food carefully in your oven in order to have it in the best place for the heat to reach your food. With a fan blowing the heated air around your oven cavity a lot more food can be cooked at once, helping you to reduce your bills which may have been significantly larger if you had only been able to cook one tray of food at a time.

Some homes now use the best of both cooking methods, they may have gas burners on top to provide a more controlled heat but may have an electric fan oven underneath for quicker cooking inside the oven. In order to maximise cooking space some homes with larger kitchens have been able to afford a double wide or twin oven where in effect there are two ovens next to each other which can allow you to use both as an oven or one for grilling food helping you cook more at once, perfect for larger meals and dinner parties.

There are a wide range of gas cooker deals as well as cheap electric cookers available online so make sure you have a look on the internet when it comes time to buy a new cooker.
