I just bought a house and the fridge is white, stove/oven is white but the dishwasher is black. Should they all be the same color?

Someone can turn dial to ignite, and not turn off completely and gas will leak into home without anyone knowing. Is there any kind of safety device, for these stoves

I am being told that every time I want to use my gas stove, I have to turn on the vent hood. Is that really true? I am used to an electric stove, so I apologize if this sounds like a dumb question.
